The Wall Street Journal published an article on Tuesday that said self-storage pulled ahead of other property types as the real-estate market rebounded thanks to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Before we hop into which self-storage REITs to invest in, I want you to know that storage facilities have brought the biggest returns to traders and investors in public real estate the past year.
That’s because many people have moved, and for those who stayed put, most needed more space in their homes for remote learning or working that also spurred demand for self-storage facilities.
In fact, as of this past June, total returns from self-storage REITs hit 36%.
As an aside for those of you wondering, over the same time period, the FTSE NAREIT Equity REITS (INDEXFTSE: FNER) gained 22% and the S&P 500 climbed 15%.
The self-storage industry also experiences an uptick in demand when people’s lives are disrupted, like relocating for a new job, marriage, divorce and school.
I think the housing market will only continue to expand because more and more people are relocating and adjusting to the post-COVID-19 economy, resulting in even more upside for the self-storage REITs in this video.
